This project educates students on worldwide architecture, presentation skills, and teamwork.

College Project - Research SkillsEach student chooses a college to research for this project, and they use information from that college’s website to answer a set of questions about admissions and student life. They must also call a representative from that college and ask additional questions over the phone. This project is an introduction to college research, and it gives students an idea of what to look for in the future.

30 Second Commercial - Teamwork SkillsStudents create a 30 second commercial for any product of their choice, real or imagined. They must script, film, and edit this commercial so that it effectively sells their product. In this project, students learn time management in a smaller group setting. It also introduces students to the cumulative film projects that are done throughout the gifted program.

The Book - Starship TroopersThe freshman class reads and analyzes Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein, a military science fiction novel. Students learn about the context of the story, specifically militarism, as the characters overcome military challenges. Students read a separate book every year that they are in gifted, and each book reflects a different ideology or world view. Starship Troopers introduces students to the importance of reading text in depth and paying close attention to detail.
